Logo design for Murrion Software
Posted on May 19th, 2009 in development |
Im looking for a logo to be created for Murrion software. If at all possible I’m looking to get it designed on a budget or in return for some PHP development work / publicity on this blog.
I sent out a message on Twitter late last week and plenty of people were good enough to retweet the message and a couple of designers got back to me, Thank you to all who responded.
Leon Quinn from Reverb Studios asked me a couple of questions and sent me back a design. Here is the design Leon sent back:

It gets to the point and suits my plain tastes. Im worried that its a bit boring though, not a reflection of Leons design, its a reflection of my own tastes and what I described. Im also not too sure about the icon and I even think it looks good without the icon.

Is it too boring without an icon? I’m developing different types of software but focusing mainly on email marketing related apps and services, should it include some email / communications related imagery?

Hi Gordon,
In my opinion the icon is meaningless and poorly executed. I would leave it out. Also the ’stretch’ and kerning on the word ’software’ throws the eye a bit and doesn’t quite work. Fixing this however would give you a straightforward simple logo, nothing too exciting, but that’s what you’re looking for. Best of luck with it!

Hi Alan,
The original image is much bigger. I resized it to fit it on the page so perhaps I messed up its aspect ratio a bit.
Does the logo remind you of anything? It reminds me of something but I can’t place it.
Gordon.
I prefer the version without the icon. It’s very straighforward - conveys an image (to me anyway) of an Accountancy or Legal firm - sober…
As per Alan - not mad about the aspect ratio of Software - distracts the eye.
I think it could do with some graphic element / icon to lift it - just not what’s there.
if the icon is to stay, i’d try it on the right hand side - better to have arrow pointing at the logo.
@le craic, @ross
Thanks for the comments. I’d like there to be some imagery, probably using the letter O. Something like an arrow or a stream of code/binary to represent communication flow.
It doesn’t look familiar to anyone?
Nothing familiar is coming to mind right now - will look again tonight
